The history of Gauchetière

"The history of La Gauchetière, at least at its origin, is closely linked to that of the Château de Chailloué. The lord of Chailloué probably had among his vassals, one located at the manor of "Gauchetière" and the other at the “Villepelée” manor.

The castle of Chailloué was the setting of a saga, not to say a true family epic of more than three centuries with the lords of De-Vieux Pont succeeding one another from generation to generation. This castle is estimated to date from the 13th century, so given the time and written history, we can think that there previously existed an old, more basic fortified castle destroyed by power wars between lords.
In this For a long time, the lords of this lineage participated in a crusade." note from Mr. Roger Bignon, historian.

Under the old regime the land of the left-hander was the residence of different families of which we have no trace to date, but always remained the property until the revolution of the lord of chailloué Pierre Louis Le Carpentier deputy of the nobility.

The de la Rivière family lived there during the revolution and the first empire.

Tranquil Bazeille, historian and writer, probably stayed there during the Second Empire.

The Léveillé and de Chateauthierry family transformed La gauchetière into a romantic castle through major work (the entire 19th century part). Marriages of this family were celebrated there.

Marcel Léveille was mayor of Chailloué
